Many adoptions these days and actually more and more are interstate adoptions. Because of the internet, because of people networking across state lines, many adoptions are taking place where the birth mother lives in one state and delivers there and the adopting parents live in another state. So when that happens, the adopting parents need to consult with an adoption professional to make sure that the laws of the applicable states are complied with because laws vary in every state. There are no two states´ laws are exactly the same. The laws differ in terms of expenses that can be paid, the consent that the birth mother would be signing including how much time she has to revoke her consent, birth father rights, expenses that can be paid and whether it can be an agency or an independent adoption. So that needs to be explored to make sure that the adoption is done legally and properly.
