Birth mothers have choices about the type of contact that they can have with the adopting parents after the birth. They can choose to have no contact, if that’s what they want. And really, these days, that’s a minority of birth moms. Most of the birth moms want to have some kind of contact. The other kind of contact they can have is to request that they get letters and updates and pictures of the child as the child grows up. And the adopting parents and the birth mom can agree to the frequency of those letters and pictures. And most birth mothers want that kind of contact. Most birth mothers these days want letters and pictures which are sent either by email, by mail, on a Facebook page, through Flickr or photo sharing accounts. The other kind of contact the birth mothers can choose is to have visits with the child and that is something that needs to be agreed to, of course, with the adopting parents and then they set that up. A smaller group of birth mothers want that, but it’s maybe the trend would be maybe towards an increasing number of birth moms are asking for visits.
