You know, having a healthy attachment with your baby is beneficial to you and to your child. Having attachment injuries to a small baby and toddler can cause major personality disorders and all kinds of mistrusting relationships later in life. So I have 3 tips for maintaining a healthy attachment with your baby and one is breast feeding. Now we all know the nutritional benefits of breast feeding, but do you know about the psychological benefits? It helps the bonding, and does it help the bonding because there is some mystery substance in breast milk? No, it helps the bonding because it releases oxytocin in your body that makes you actually a better mother. Secondly, co-sleeping. If you are able to sleep with your baby and be aware, and do some nighttime parenting and not have to wait until they are in a full awake screaming down the hall in a crib and then going to heat up a bottle. I mean there is a big disconnect that happens in that 20 minutes it takes you to attend to their needs. When you are sleeping with your baby, you roll over, you give them a boob and it's all taken care of in just a few seconds. And lastly, baby wearing. There's so much communication, even while you are getting things done in your life, and you are on the phone and the computer and you are running errands, but if you are wearing your baby, you are having skin to skin contact. And you are communicating with each other and staying connected.
