Transcription:
Your daughter’s first year of college is a chance for her to redefine her connection with you and with herself. And whether she’s living at home and going to school nearby, or living across the country, having conversations about what that connection is going to look like is a really good idea. You can talk about it in big ways, but you can also talk about the really practical aspects like how often will both of you be speaking on the phone? How often will she be wanting to text you or want texts from you? What are the plans for visits home? This is going to change over the course of her first year, but stay tuned into the way that she’s needing to be connecting or reconnecting with you. Also stay tuned into her emotional states – sometimes, first year college students experience some anxiety or depression and if you notice some signs of that in your young adult daughter, you want to encourage her to get support. Most colleges have a college counseling center that is there for them.
