Parents often ask me how to comfort their own children. When their children here about stories in the media of tragedies such as a school shootings or a terrorist attack. This can be really challenging. What I usually recommend is to turn off the TV, turn off the radio and try to show your child as much as possible from what’s going on around. If your child has questions, answer their questions directly and simply, let them know that measures are been taken to keep them safe. That’s what their teachers are there for, their principals are there for. Most people in this world are good. But there are some people that make bad choices and do things that aren't very nice. But this is a very rare situation, not one that happens very often and not one that your young child should have to worry about.
